This summer is the best opportunity to engage in domestic tourism and explore the cozy corners of our homeland.
Resting as a "savage" today is not at all the same as before. Firstly, camping sites have come down to us, which appear en masse in picturesque and touristic places. Such equipped camps have access to water, electricity, necessary amenities and a kitchen. And secondly, even if you go to a deserted place, now there are many devices for outdoor recreation without losing comfort.
Generators, batteries, solar power banks, gas burners, autonomous showers, car refrigerators, inflatable hammock bags, grills for every taste and budget, tents with several rooms, special dried and freeze-dried products, and even a coffee maker for the car cigarette lighter.
Of course, it's not all inclusive and this type of vacation is not suitable for everyone. But if you are ready for some inconveniences for the sake of new experiences, then choose a location from our selection.
CLOSER TO THE SEA
Byryuchy Island, Kherson region
Byryuchy Island is a spit in the southern, expanded part of Fedotova Spit, in the Sea of Azov, almost 9 km long with several recreation centers. It is good for both swimming and fishing.
Despite its remoteness from the mainland, civilization is in order on the island. There is a supermarket and a manufactured goods market, a cafe and even a disco. In addition, in the nearby village of Kyrylivka there is one of the largest water parks in Ukraine, a dolphinarium, a riding school and an amusement park.
Dzharylgach Island in Kherson region
This is the largest and second longest island in Ukraine and the Black Sea, located near Skadovsk. The island is washed by the Black Sea on one side and the Dzharylhatskaya Bay on the other. The length of the spit is about 42 km.
The island has long been called the "Ukrainian Maldives", because there are deserted beaches with white sand, azure sea and wild nature reserves. On Dzharylgach you can see deer, fallow deer, mouflons, hares, etc. If you go deep into the island, you can find a lagoon with swans. At night, wild boars and raccoon dogs like to walk around the island, which like to feast on unhidden food. And the greatest joy will be brought by dolphins, which have long been accustomed to people and are not afraid to swim to the shore.
You can get to Dzharylgach from the city by private boat or pleasure yacht. There are no hotels, supermarkets or entertainment centers here. People come here to be alone with nature.
If you don't want to carry a lot of stuff with you or you simply don't have a tent with sleeping bags, there is an opportunity to rent everything you need on the island and camp.
Tendrivska Spit on the border of Kherson and Mykolaiv regions
This is a narrow strip in the Black Sea, the width of which reaches a maximum of 2 km. It is separated from the land by the Tendri Bay. In fact, it is an island. The area of the spit is 32 km, the length is 65 km.
Romantics and lovers of wild places will appreciate all the beauty of nature. The azure sea, dolphins, pelicans, beaches dotted with large rapans and only the sound of the waves all around.
You can only get to the island by water. Even an SUV won't be able to overcome the water channels. The easiest way is to rent a yacht or a boat in the area of Zalizny Port, Lazurny, Primorsky or Ochakiv. Be sure to agree with the captain the exact time and place where he will pick you up: the mobile connection on the spit is very weak.
Despite the fact that geographically Tendra is practically adjacent to the Iron Port, this route is strictly closed to travelers. The western coast of the village is a closed part of the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve and passage from this side is allowed only to gamekeepers and scientists.
Kinburn Spit on the border of Kherson and Mykolaiv regions
A 40-kilometer strip of land extending into the sea is located between the Black Sea and the Dnieper-Bug Estuary. Here is the Yagorlytsky Bay, and on the peninsula itself there are also 400 lakes of various sizes with fresh and salt water. The latter are valued for their healing mud and healing white clay, and their health-improving effect is not inferior to the Dead Sea. There are also many swamps, so it is dangerous to walk carefree along the spit.
The Kinburn Spit has amazing nature: in the spring, fields of wild orchids begin to bloom in the vicinity of Pokrovka, in the summer you can swim in the sea or in the bay, in the fall the old Volyzhyn forest turns into a golden fairy tale. The island is home to hares, turtles, beavers, foxes, and cranes. The area is called an “open-air pharmacy” because a huge number of healing herbs grow in the meadows. Here you can meet pink pelicans, which are rare for Ukraine.
The beach is strewn with white sand with small shells, the entrance to the sea is gradual, without drops. There are no enterprises nearby, so the water and air are clean, saturated with bromine, iodine. It is important to know that swimming is prohibited at the junction of the Dnieper-Bug estuary and the Black Sea, because even an experienced swimmer finds it difficult to cope with the current. But it is interesting to watch how the waves of two different waters washing the spit roll onto each other.
There are three small villages on the spit: Pokrovski Khutory, Vasylivka, Pokrovka. Most tourists spend the night on the shore of the estuary in Vasylivka. You can come there with your tent or stay in a campsite. There is enough fresh water on the peninsula, and it is better to buy food in advance, because in local stores during the summer season prices increase several times.
Kuyalnytsky and Khadzhibeysky estuaries in Odessa region
The estuaries are located several kilometers from each other on the Black Sea coast near Odessa. The uniqueness of the place is that you can, sunbathing under the sun, restore your health in salty healing water. At the bottom of the estuaries lie layers of healing clay, which contains many minerals, and the calling card of the place is mineral water, which flows from a well with a depth of more than 90 meters. On this basis, a balneo-mud resort has been opened here.
This is a great place to relax with a fishing rod to the cries of seagulls for a few days. Having prepared for active recreation, you can explore the surroundings on foot. And if you want to go to civilization, you can go for a walk in Odessa.
NOT THE SEA ALONE
Lake Cahul, Odesa region
A few dozen meters away is the territory of Moldova and Romania, the lakes neighboring Cahul no longer belong to Ukraine. This is the edge of geography almost literally. The terrain here is not particularly developed, there are no shops, so take your groceries with you in advance. This place is really ideal for a secluded vacation away from civilization.
High cliffs with birds chirping in their nests, a field of fragrant aromatic herbs. Close your eyes for a second and imagine how magical it is to wake up here in the morning.
Aktovsky Canyon, Mykolaiv region
Near the village of Aktovo, a river valley stretches out, mirror-like water sparkles between stone boulders, and the Trikratsky forest rustles in the distance. Despite the fact that the locals call this area with trepidation the Devil's Valley, it is infinitely beautiful here.
Clean air attracts guests here, especially fans of active tourism and rock climbing. There are more than enough places to rest with a tent in the Aktovsky Canyon, but, as a rule, tourists are placed on the banks of the river. Rafting is prohibited, but swimming is allowed.
You should walk carefully along the canyon, the stones are slippery, so you should not approach the edge of the cliff. Here you can come across hundreds of Red Book plants. There are also many animals in the valley: lizards, storks, hares, pheasants, etc.
The village of Mygiya in the Mykolaiv region
Mygiya is an ancient Cossack village where rafting competitions are held every year. The Southern Bug River flows through the village, and the river canyon impresses with its picturesque landscapes: granite rocks, plains covered with greenery, and 12 rapids of varying difficulty.
You can go kayaking and catamarans on the Southern Bug, go rafting, kayaking, and in the surrounding area you can go rock climbing, fishing, and horseback riding.
In addition to sports activities, it is worth seeing the Skarzhynskyi Mill. The structure resembles an impregnable castle built of large stones.
And nearby is the Black Lake, also called the Radon Lake. It was formed after the flooding of a granite quarry. The lake is very deep and some daredevils jump from the rocks into the water. However, staying in the water for a long time is not recommended due to the high content of radon, which is useful only in minimal doses.
One of the fastest trolleybuses in Europe runs across the lake, accelerating to 17 meters per second. Extreme sports enthusiasts will appreciate this entertainment. The descent takes place from the observation deck, near which there is a camping complex.
Bakota in Khmelnytskyi region
Rest in Bakota Bay will give more impressions than even a trip to the sea. There is a place for the soul to roam. If you go to the right - a lake with warm water, if you go to the left - peace and quiet. Bakota is located not far from Kamianets-Podilskyi. It is also called the Ukrainian Atlantis - when the Dniester hydroelectric power station was built, the villagers were forcibly resettled and everything was flooded.
Today, the shores of Bakotskaya Bay are a popular place to relax with tents. People come here to fish and admire the scenery. You can also rent a boat, a yacht, or simply watch the picturesque slopes near the Dniester from the shore.
By the way, only a few buildings remain on the shore of the bay, among them the oldest temple in Podillia – the 14th-century St. Michael's Monastery.
CARPATHIANS
The village of Dzembronya in Ivano-Frankivsk region
It is difficult to choose specific locations in this picturesque part of our Motherland. In principle, you can come to any place, pitch a tent and enjoy the mountains. But I would like to single out Dzembronya separately - an area where there is almost no civilization, but there is an equipped camping site "White Elephant". The village of Dzembronya is located in the very heart of the Carpathians - in the Kosiv district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region. Buses rarely go to this wilderness, and only the brave get there by car, and even then in jeeps.
Here it is worth climbing Mount Pip-Ivan to the observatory, built in the early 20th century. On the way, you can rest at the Vukhatiy Kamin rock - it offers a panorama of the Chornohorsky ridge. By the way, in June, rhododendrons bloom on Mount Pip-Ivan, and this is a truly magnificent sight. Plan the entire daylight for the ascent and descent from Pop-Ivan. Or take a tent and sleeping bags with you to spend the night at the top and see the best sunrise in your life in the morning. You can also rent equipment at the campsite and go rafting on the Cheremosh River.
MOVING NORTH
Shatsk Lakes in Volyn Oblast
This is a group of over 30 lakes, which are called the “blue eyes of Volyn” because the water in them is crystal clear. They include Svityaz, the largest lake in Ukraine of karst origin, which is 58 meters deep. Surprisingly, no river flows into the lake, it is fed only by groundwater.
There is an island in the middle of the reservoir, but now it is a protected area (a place for bird nesting) and entry is prohibited. The water in the lake is saturated with silver and glycerin, which is why it is called healing. It perfectly heals small wounds and softens the skin. There are a lot of fish here (including eels), so you can take a fishing rod with you and, optimally, an inflatable boat.
In addition, horseback riding, kayaking, and cycling tours are available. And along the lake stretches a coniferous forest where blueberries, nuts, and mushrooms grow.
The most convenient place to set up a tent is one of the three tourist camps – Nezabudka, Mokoshyn, and near Lake Pisochne.
CENTRAL UKRAINE
Buchach Canyon in Cherkasy region
Granite Canyon is located on the Hirskiy Tikich River near the village of Buki. The place is unique in that its granites have been lying here since the Proterozoic era. The length of the canyon is about five kilometers, and the depth in some places can reach 20 meters.
The rocks around Buchach Canyon are so intricately carved that if you look closely, you can see human profiles. For those who like to hike "savagely" along the canyon, there is space for tents.
