"All-Ukrainian Easter Egg Festival" is perhaps the largest event dedicated to a purely Ukrainian cultural miracle - Easter egg making. This year marks the sixth Easter festival, which has become traditional for Ukrainians over the years. It is organized by Folk Ukraine, an international ethnocultural project that has organized such well-known and beloved events in Kyiv as Waltz Day, Kyiv Day, New Year in Sofia, and many others.
This year's Easter Egg Festival takes place on Sofiyska and Mykhailivska Squares, and also covers Volodymyrsky Proezd, where the fair houses are located.
Donetsk Easter Egg, "Tunnel of Desires" and other interesting facts of the project
The main decoration of the festival and its most important event are 374 Easter eggs from 374 artists of Ukraine. Mega Easter eggs are one and a half meters high and half a meter in diameter. All works, before being judged by the audience, were carefully selected throughout Ukraine by a competition committee, and only the most original, interesting and amazing made it to the festival.
Each pysanka is original and unique, their creators tell about their favorite corners, towns, villages through their works - small parts of one great united Ukraine. The art performance was attended by both famous artists and novice artists who had only recently discovered the art of drawing.
According to the results of the vote, the first place went to the Easter egg depicting the sights of Donetsk, the author of which is a native of this city, Taisia Drugakova-Astashkevych. This work will go to the Pope as a holiday gift on May 10, the others will be sent to various exhibitions abroad - to Poland, Germany, Georgia.
The winning Easter egg received 5,379 votes. The best works were voted for by people who walked around the square during the Easter weekend and gave their preferences in the form of ribbons that they tied to the works.
The project was a huge success, able to unite the entire country in one square, attracting the interest of many people.
In addition to the huge Easter eggs, you can see 27 thousand small works of art at the festival, which, by the way, you can create yourself right on the square by taking part in various master classes.
The festival program also includes an exhibition of modern and traditional Easter cakes, an Easter fair, children's entertainment, performances by groups, a food court area, and much more.
Also on Mikhailovskaya Square, traditionally, as part of the festival, the "Tunnel of Wishes" is built. This is a 20-meter tunnel decorated with Easter eggs from red to yellow. Legend has it that if you touch 25 Easter eggs, your wish will definitely come true. True or not, we don't know yet, but you can try.
There is a small green town in the park area of Volodymyrsky Proezd, where everyone can join in the basics of gardening, learn how to make bouquets, compositions, decorate the garden, and also purchase various saplings, seedlings, and seeds.
Those who haven't yet had time to join the wonderful and amazing Ukrainian traditions that have passed through the ages and found their place in modern times, hurry up, the festival will delight Kyiv residents and guests of the capital until May 9. Admission is free.
