A journey through places of Cossack glory

A journey through places of Cossack glory

There are many different historical legends in the life of our people. And many of them are connected with the times when these legends were created by our national defenders - the Ukrainian Cossacks, whose exploits are known to the entire civilized world.

Cossack invulnerability to bullets and swords, Cossack treasures and the treasures of the chieftains, the famous forks, by which the Lord God himself pulled the Cossacks out of any trouble. You involuntarily remember this when you visit the glorious places of military glory, where you touch the legends created by these defenders. This journey will leave a mark in your memory, so it is worth finding time and visiting these famous places. Let's take a virtual journey and touch the glory of our ancestors, and later you can supplement it with more significant sensations.

It is not difficult to visit the places where the Cossacks won historic victories over the enemy, and it does not take much time, a vacation will be enough for this. But you will get an incredible amount of impressions from this trip. It is better to start this historical route from Haidamatsky Yar, which is located in Vinnytsia region, and end it with a trip to Khortytsia.

Haidamatskyi Yar. Vinnytsia region

Among the villages of Vinnytsia region, the village of Busha is famous, very close to which is the famous place - Haidamatsky Yar. Here you can see many interesting sculptures created by nature itself, and it is here that there is a large number of caves connected by a whole network of underground passages. According to legends and folk tales, Cossacks hid in these caves during the war with Poland. Rumor has it that the treasure of these Cossacks is buried somewhere here, and there are still people who want to find it and believe in their luck.

Pyatnytskyi Cemetery. Ternopil region

The history of this cemetery dates back to the 16th century. In 1648, the Cossack army of Maxim Krivonos stormed the Kremenets castle. It was the Cossacks who died in this storm who were buried in the cemetery of these places. According to legend, one of the Cossack battles was so difficult and exhausting that the Cossacks were completely exhausted and could not even properly bury their brothers on the day of the battle. The next day, waking up, the Cossacks were surprised to see ready-made graves with white stone crosses. On the graves of the bandurists, tombstones were made in the shape of bandurs.

Wells of Love in Subotov, Cherkasy region

Subotiv is known primarily as the place where the residence of the Ukrainian hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky is located. Near the center of the village there are three wells, dug by Bohdan Khmelnytsky in memory of the fallen Cossacks. Legend has it that a girl who drinks water from all three wells in turn will find her love and betrothed within three days, no more.

This legend was born during the sad mass death of the Cossacks, when battles claimed hundreds of their lives. And it was very difficult for a young girl to find a lover. And after observing the wells and their amazing water, the girls noticed this magical effect.

Khortytsia Island. Zaporizhia region

This island is truly legendary, and one could talk about it for hours. This place, like no other, is associated with legends and stories that glorify the heroism of the Zaporozhian Cossacks.

In addition to the well-known complex "Zaporizhzhya Sich", in the northern part there is a gorge called the Snake Cave. Even Herodotus, when he was on the banks of the Dnieper, mentioned a certain country of Hylea, where Hercules met the Serpent Maiden. And it was in this cave that this event took place, and their sons Gelon, Agathyrs and Scythus were born there. And the latter, as you can understand, gave rise to the powerful Scythian family.

On the neighboring island of Sredny Stolp there is a small, one and a half meter, recess - this is a Cossack bowl. Legend has it that from this bowl the Cossacks fed each other with huge one and a half meter spoons. And according to another legend, the bowl was once a bath for girls, who after such bathing acquired even greater beauty and youth.

However, the most famous legend of the island is associated with Cossack gold - after all, a large amount of treasures, money, and weapons accumulated in the Sich.

The Cossacks obtained some in an honest battle, some after the division of the booty, but it was not possible to carry this cargo with them, they had to hide it, both underground, as is usually the case, and underwater. And with the death of the Cossack who buried the treasure, the treasures became lost and so desirable for adventurers. When the Sich was liquidated, the Cossacks considered the forced relocation temporary and did not take their treasures with them to new places, hoping to return soon. And since then, here and there on Khortytsia, crosses or coins made of gold have been found. But how many more treasures and other secrets are hidden on the island!

That's where our journey ends, now it can continue from the doorstep of your apartment. In real time, it will take no more than a week, so you can safely plan this route for your next vacation - you won't regret it.
