There are places in our country that are full of attraction for travelers - either because of their history or because of the mystical impulses that permeate these places. And in order to feel this incomprehensible atmosphere and mystical spirit, it is not necessary to go to other distant countries, for example, Scotland, Peru, solve the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle, Moses' mountain, look for the mysterious Loch Ness monster, climb the pyramids of Egypt and even further. All this can be felt on your native land.
You can look into history and find mystical phenomena in it in Ukraine. So let's travel to mysterious places, more accessible than foreign analogues. but no less interesting. And we have enough of them, you just have to start looking. And here our short guide will come in handy.
Observatory of the Ancients, Mavrinsky Square
Location: Dnipropetrovsk region, Pavlohrad district, village of Mezhyrich
If you drive away from Pavlohrad, you can see an earthen structure of unclear purpose. From a height it looks like some huge mysterious symbol. The locals gave it the name Mavrinsky Maidan. In shape it resembles a cone with a truncated top, with a hollow from which earthen ramparts of a snake-like shape symmetrically diverge in different directions. Looking at it closely, it is difficult to notice anything remarkable - an ordinary hill, similar to many others, except that its height is much greater. As for its purpose, there are different versions. One of them says that this structure was once a watchtower and performed a defensive function for the Zaporozhian Cossacks. Some researchers believe that the Maidan arose as a result of numerous predatory excavations of other mounds, and perhaps the appearance of the Maidan is due to saltpeter mining inside it - such a fishery once existed. But all rational versions are not as interesting and attractive as those associated with magic. In addition, there is a certain connection between the design of the Mauryan Square and how the sun is located taking into account the season. This allows us to believe that once it could have been a temple or other building of religious and cult significance, and local ancient residents could gather there and conduct their rituals. Or perhaps this construction was a kind of calendar-observatory building, a whole complex like Stonehenge.
"Lightning Nest"
Location: Zhytomyr region, Korosten district, village of Kupishche
There are special places that seem to attract lightning to themselves, as local beliefs say, and are popularly called "dumps". In ancient times, it was believed that the god Perun rides in his golden chariot and scatters lightning into the dumps. One of these mysterious places is located near the village of Kupishche: local residents say that an incomprehensible glow periodically appears in an enchanted clearing. A powerful beam of light shoots from under the ground into the sky, as if a bright spotlight suddenly turns on underground. Various archaeological excavations were carried out here, and during them the remains of an incomprehensible ancient structure were found, a bronze statue depicting some idol, stone slabs with inscriptions in a previously unknown language, and Roman coins. Scientists have suggested that another civilization, more advanced than the one that exists today, lived and developed on this site long before the emergence of Kievan Rus. In this case, Gromovyshche could have been a place of their prayers, archaeologists suggest, and the ruins that were found could have been an ancient temple. Zones that were anomalous in one way or another, which had mystical power, were always chosen for various religious ceremonies. African sorcerers, for example, had a certain relationship with lightning: they drew a circle on the ground, performed their ritual special dance in it, and danced until lightning struck the chosen place. Scientists have their own explanation for what happens in “lightning holes”: they have a reduced electrical resistance. This happens in cases where there is a hidden source of water or metal deposits underground.
The Legend of the Blind Carp, Black Lake
Location : Kirovohrad region, Znamensky district, village of Bohdanivka
Forest strips alternate with hilly terrain, they are replaced by dense forest massifs, and again comes a flat, boundless space. This is what the local land looks like. In the Kirovograd region, not far from the district center of Znamyanka, there is a mysterious enchanted Black Lake. The road lies from the village of Bohdanivka, along an ancient earthen settlement dating back to the 7th century, which now consists only of ditches and ramparts, and to the Black Forest. In it, in this mystical forest, along the Znamyanka - Oleksandrivka highway, this reservoir, full of mysticism and phenomena that defy logical explanation, is hidden. The nature here is very beautiful, the surface of the lake is completely covered with water lilies. Oaks grow in the forest, which are more than half a century old, relict plants that have come down to us only as a miracle from ancient geological times. Black Lake is also called Berestuvate, and its depth has not yet been measured by anyone. This has given rise to legends about its bottomlessness. According to other legends, there is still a bottom, and not just one - it is quite likely that it is double or even triple. The lake has icy water all year round. The miracle of the lake is considered to be the golden crucian carp, which, according to legend, is found in the lake. Local residents say that this crucian carp is blind, and whoever catches it or at least sees it will find a way to the treasures hidden at the very bottom of the reservoir. Local fishermen call this fish not golden crucian carp, but black, earthen. It is much more difficult to catch than ordinary fish, but the catch also brings more joy and luck than usual. In addition to crucian carp, floating islands can also be called attractions of the lake. They are small areas of land, with trees and grass growing on them, but they constantly change their place on the lake due to migrations. Orchids grow on these islands, which are found nowhere else in the steppe of Ukraine.
The Golden Horse of King Mithridates
Location: Crimea, Kerch
Mount Mithridates can be called an unusual mountain, and there are reasons for that. From its observation deck you can see an impressive panorama of Kerch. History lovers will find interesting monuments to the heroes-defenders of the city here. In addition, there are the ruins of the capital of the Bosporus - the ancient Greek settlement of Panticapaeum. It was the largest trade and craft center of the Northern Black Sea region in ancient times. And finally, it is worth saying that Mount Mithridates is surrounded by secrets and mysteries like a cloud. It is surrounded by a staircase leading to the top, and they number over four hundred steps. They are decorated with sculptures of griffins - mythical creatures with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. The name of the mountain comes from the name of the Pontic king Mithridates, who ruled the Bosporan kingdom. He was a descendant of Alexander the Great, was considered an outstanding extraordinary man, possessed incredible physical strength, a deep mind, powerful energy, and above all a cruel disposition. For many years he fought the Roman Empire, persistently and unshakably, in attempts to crush it. But the opposite happened, and it was he who was defeated. The conspiracy was led by his son Pharnaces, and when King Mithridates found out about this, he took poison. However, the potion had no effect on the powerful constitution of the king, and then he ordered the chief of the guard to stab him. Cicero, upon learning of the death of Mithridates, called him the greatest ruler with whom Rome had ever waged war. This event occurred in 63 BC. According to myths, on Mount Mithridates there is a stable of the golden horse of the king of the Bosporan kingdom. In the 90s, a grotto was discovered on the mountain, and its origin was not natural. Archaeologists suggested several options - it could have been a quarry, or it could have been a room for keeping slaves or a prison. And according to another version of the history of this grotto, it could have housed a cult building, but here's what - no one has yet had the chance to find out about it.
Dungeon dwellers
Location: Odessa region, city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi
On the banks of the picturesque Dniester Estuary near Odessa is the city of Bilhorod-Dniester, one of the main monuments of antiquity of which is rightfully considered the Akkerman fortress. It attracts tourists with its legends and history. The fortress itself is a defensive structure with a network of underground communications. Near it, and inside it, in the post-war years, anomalous phenomena were often noticed, especially often at night. The local population saw incomprehensible horned creatures several times at night, they came out of the fortress and stole food from the population. An entire cistern with milk disappeared, fruits fell right from the trees. I fell under the hot hand of horned kidnappers and guards of a bread store. The raids of foreigners would have frightened the local population for a long time and it is still unknown what they would have ended in the end, but an earthquake occurred, and as a result of it many underground passages and tunnels of the Belgorod-Dniester fortress were destroyed and filled in. So they did not have time to solve the mystery of the night visitors, so they had to be content with putting forward hypotheses. According to one of the hypotheses, the caves were long ago inhabited by Australopithecus - people or monkeys who lived about four million years ago, today they are considered, naturally, extinct. According to this hypothesis, they perceived the arrival of people as competition and climbed deep into the caves, from where they came out at night in search of food. According to the second hypothesis, the caves were inhabited by children of mixed "marriages" of earthly women with alien creatures who do not tolerate daylight, and therefore preferred to live in dungeons. The third hypothesis suggests that in the post-war years, Romanian soldiers who did not surrender or deserted at the time hid in these caves for more than a quarter of a century. Which of these versions is plausible, and whether there is such a one among them, remains unknown. But voices from under the ground are heard to this day, as locals assure.
Three wells
Location: Cherkasy region, Chyhyryn district, village of Subotiv
On the right bank of the Tyasmin River, ten kilometers from Chyhyryn, lies the village of Subotiv. At one time, in the 17th century, it was the residence of Bohdan Khmelnytsky. The famous Ilyinska Church was built in this village, opposite the Hetman's Palace. It is still considered an outstanding architectural monument today. According to the chronicles, in 1657 the famous Hetman was buried in it. Not far from the center of the village are three wells, which, according to legend, were dug by order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky in honor of the Cossacks who died in the battle. There are rumors that these wells help unmarried girls in their search for a groom. Local residents believe that if a girl drinks spring water from the wells, and from three in a row, which is especially important, then three days will pass and she will find her betrothed. This legend has its roots in the historical past of the country, in those sad times when Cossacks died in wars by the hundreds, and finding a groom for a girl was not such an easy task. Probably, people began to notice that water in some mysterious way affects success in this important and difficult task. It can be assumed that it was a coincidence, but people really wanted to find reasons and patterns that solve complex life issues, they wanted to believe in a miracle. But nevertheless, there were cases, and these magical wells are still well-known among women who want to change their lives. Many of them come to the village of Subotiv just for this chance to get married - to drink spring water and find happiness in family life.
Crimean pyramids: real fact or speculation?
Location : Crimean Autonomous Republic, Sevastopol district, between Cape Foros and Balaklava
The most mysterious structures on the entire planet have always been considered pyramids. They come in several types: burial pyramids, pyramids - sacrificial altars, and pyramids whose purpose has remained incomprehensible to researchers. Scientists believe that the shape of the pyramid is an energy accumulator, powerful and very thoughtfully built. The largest pyramids, as everyone knows, are in Egypt. Pyramids have also been found in Guatemala, Mexico, China, Honduras, Japan, Tibet and in the Crimea.
It all started with the study of the location of the thermal waters. In one place, radars recorded ultra-high frequencies, which made scientists think: is there something unusual underground? After the excavations began, at a depth of 9.5 meters, they unexpectedly discovered something that resembled the face of a pyramid, hollow from the inside. They conducted research, testing and analysis, which showed that it was actually a pyramid, and a very regular one, 45 meters high. The search continued, and as a result, similar structures were found in six more different places. According to preliminary data, the age of these pyramids is much greater than the age of Egyptian structures. Since then, the Crimean pyramids have become popular, they have been visited by researchers, scientists, speleologists, journalists, and ordinary citizens who had the courage to go down. Crimea has provided archaeologists with more than thirty similar structures. Many researchers believe that all the talk around these pyramids is empty and worthless, as are their objects. But the question has not yet been finally resolved: are these really the remains of, perhaps, the most ancient civilization, or a flaw, a false hope of researchers?
Stone grave
Location: Zaporizhia region, Melitopol district, village of Terpinnya
Interesting places can be found in the Azov steppe. Stone women, ancient mounds, traces of settlements. But the palm of supremacy is firmly held by the Stone Tomb - this is a sacred territory where ancient inhabitants lived. Scientists consider it one of the most powerful centers of energy power on the planet. The Stone Tomb is a pile of sandstone blocks, which occupy an area of about 3 thousand square meters. The height of these stones reaches 12 meters. The shape of the Stone Tomb resembles a mound, or a huge burial ground. The name came from here. According to legend, once upon a time it was an ordinary sandstone shoal in the Sarmatian Sea. But then its waters receded, and the top of the shoal finally turned into solid sandstone. The appearance of this place today is a hill, completely covered with large stone blocks. Among the accumulation of these boulders, you can find many cavities formed naturally. These are grottos, caves. The stones of their walls are densely covered with a huge number of ancient hieroglyphs. These are symbols depicting animals, people, phenomena. Some of these signs are interpreted by scientists as magical drawings used in various rituals of that time - to attract good luck in hunting, fishing, to obtain a result from some human actions. On the stone island, as well as in the vicinity in general, scientists were unable to detect signs of human settlements. This allows us to conclude: The Stone Tomb was not a place of life, but a sanctuary - a place with mystical properties. Ufologists believe that the Stone Tomb contains genetic data about races. Other researchers say that the writings found on the tomb stones are older than the Sumerian writing, and in general are the oldest examples of literacy on Earth.
