14 most picturesque waterfalls of the Carpathians

The beauty of the Carpathian waterfalls is not revealed to everyone, it is timid and worthy of feats and long journeys for its sake. Some waterfalls are hidden in mountain villages, small towns. Some climb high into the mountains and in order to admire them, you need to walk more than one kilometer, moreover, constantly overcoming the height. However, those brave people who still pass these tests will discover beautiful exciting views and panoramas. The forests and surrounding villages will look like scenery and models, and the waterfall will bring not only icy coolness, but also a refreshing breath of drops after a difficult journey.

We have prepared a small selection of picturesque places in the Carpathians, the main decorations of which are waterfalls.

Waterfalls of Bukovina

They are also called Smuharski waterfalls. The name comes from the Smuhariv River, in its valley these waterfalls occur. There are seven of them in total, united by one name, the height of the smallest of them, Vorota and Kovbera, is 3.5 meters, and the highest and most picturesque, Velyky Guk, falls from a height of 19 meters. These waterfalls are so unique that they were nominated for the Ukrainian rating "Seven Wonders of Ukraine". In order to become a winner and get into this seven, they were a little short, and in the end they took ninth place.

These waterfalls are located in the Putyl district of the Chernivtsi region.

Hoverla Waterfall

This waterfall is also known to tourists as Prutsky. Its water falls from a height of 80 meters, in cascades, and the height of the largest, longest cascade is over 120 meters. The water flows into the lowland located between the Brebeneskul and Hoverla mountains. Here begins the trail, along which you can reach the highest point of the Carpathian Mountains - Mount Hoverla.

The waterfall is located in Nadvoryanskyi district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Gadzhyn Waterfalls

The Gadzhina tract has never been considered an accessible place on the map of the Carpathians. But from here you can see the waterfalls perfectly. Around are the very high peaks of the mountains Petros, Pip Ivan and Brebeneskul. Five of the six mountains with a height of more than two thousand meters are located here. This corner is not only beautiful and picturesque, but also a little mysterious, shrouded in local legends. Here on the Chornohorsky ridge are the Gadzhinsky waterfalls, at an altitude of about 1500 meters. There are six of them in total, the highest of them reaches a height of 6 meters.

It is located on the northeastern slopes of the Chornohirsky Range, in the tributary of the Bystrets Mreye.

Dzembron Waterfalls

It is not the easiest thing to climb to a height of at least 1400-1700 meters above sea level. However, it is from here that you can admire the beauty of these waterfalls. The waterfall cascades attract with their picturesqueness. Their total length is about 100 meters, and the height of the highest one is 10 meters. Tourists believe that the first waterfall is the whole spectacle, but if you go a little further, you can see other, hidden cascades, which you will have to get to on slippery stones. However, it is worth it - and whoever can overcome fear and water will be delighted with the power and beauty of the Dzembron waterfall in the complex.

Located near the village of Dzembronya, Verkhovyna district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Zhenetsky Hook

For locals, it is called in a friendly way Guk, and that's it. However, if you want to find it, you should clarify with the locals which Guk you mean. For the Carpathians, guks are waterfalls in general, because they make a lot of noise when they fall. Zhenetski Guk itself is hidden in the Carpathian forests, and while you are going to it, you will have to make several stops. The locals took care of the conveniences on the way to the picturesque views - on the way you will come across benches and even tables more than once. Here you will need something tasty, if you do not forget to take it with you in advance. The height of the waterfall is 15 meters. Accordingly, when water falls with force from this height, the noise and hum created is very loud.

The waterfall is located near the village of Tatariv, Nadvoryansky district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Kamyanka

This waterfall can rightfully be called the most civilized: next to it you can find stalls with souvenirs and delicacies from local confectioners. The height of the waterfall is 7 meters, and you can even swim in its waters if you wish. At the same time, do not forget that the water in the waterfall is very cold: as soon as your foot touches the water surface, your leg feels like hundreds and thousands of small needles pricking you with a shiver. And if you still decide to take a photo in front of the waterfall, do not forget about it.

The waterfall is located in the village of Dubyna, Skoli district, Lviv region.

Luzhkivskyi Waterfall

When you get there for the first time, ask the locals for directions to the highest of all the waterfalls in the Hutsul region. This is the only way to find it. Its height reaches 14 meters. The sun's rays rarely reach its waters, so even in the hottest summer it retains a refreshing, and even a little more, freshness. Lovers of heat and sun are better off going to the waterfall in the afternoon, when the sun can reach even these secluded corners of the Carpathians.

It is located near the village of Luzhky, near the village of Velyky Rozhyn, Kosiv district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Manyava Waterfall

This waterfall has earned the title of one of the highest Ukrainian waterfalls - its height is about 20 meters. In addition to its height, it is also famous for its beauty, and the road to it attracts many tourists. Getting closer to the waterfall, tourists notice that the granite walls are getting bigger, reaching a height of 20 meters. This is how you will get acquainted with the Manyavka River valley for the first time. It will be more comfortable if you take care of rubber boots in advance - you will have to walk along the riverbed, so boots will definitely not hurt those who love comfort. By the way, this waterfall was chosen by extreme sports enthusiasts for their extreme entertainment: here they descend from the waterfall on a rope, arranging a kind of canyoning tours.

The waterfall is located in the Bogorodchansky district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Breakdown

This waterfall is also called Yaremche. This is a full-flowing waterfall that impresses with its power and pressure. It is located on the Prut River, which flows through Yaremche. Its height is 8 meters, and it is very popular among tourists. The waterfall, with the force of its waves, has broken through a depression, the depth of which reaches 30 meters, and there are still daredevils who jump into this cold depth. However, jumping into a waterfall has always been dangerous, so you should not increase the risk and joke with your life, even in pursuit of thrills.

Located in Nadvirna district, Ivano-Frankivsk region, in the city of Yaremche.

Silver Falls

Here we will see not one waterfall, but a whole cascade of streams. There are both Big and Small Guky. The cascade was formed on the Pistynka River. We are used to the fact that the water of waterfalls is always cold or even icy, but these waterfalls are distinguished by their warm nature - their waters warm up well, so in the summer tourists can even arrange swimming pools here and open the beach season. Waterfalls are no less picturesque in winter: the water freezes in unusual shapes and forms fantasy ice sculptures that the most venerable sculptor would envy. When talking about the most picturesque and wonderful waterfalls of the Carpathians - we can safely say that we are talking about the Silver Waterfalls.

You can find them in the village of Sheshory, Kosiv district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.

Skakalo Waterfall

The name of this waterfall speaks for itself – its waters seem to jump from one stone to another. According to scientists, there was a place here where volcanic rocks came out, which formed a reservoir. The waterfall is 50 meters high, originates from a small stream of the Sinyavka River. This waterfall cannot boast of its size, but it is not inferior in beauty to its larger brothers.

Located in Mukachevo district, Transcarpathian region, in the Nyzhne Hrabovyshche tract.

Trufanets

One of the highest natural waterfalls in Transcarpathia. Its waters run down the mountain slopes, falling from a height of 1720 meters, in several cascades, forming a waterfall 36 meters high. A gazebo was built above this picturesque picture, which allows you to admire the beauty of the waterfall. In other places it is not so clearly visible and in parts, not in full scale. Trufanets originates from a stream that flows 230 meters underground.

Located in Rakhiv district, Transcarpathian region.

Shypit Waterfall

This is one of the seven wonders of Ukraine. The 14-meter Shipot is the highlight of Mizhhirya, and its roar can be heard from afar. Dozens, if not hundreds, of tourists flock here every day. And although this area was not developed until recently, now there are all the amenities to admire the picturesque views: benches, trays with masterpieces of confectionery craftsmanship by local craftsmen, places for a quiet natural rest.

The waterfall was very popular with the locals, and now every summer a festival is held here, attracting guests from all over the country. The most vibrant time of the festival is on July 6, Ivan Kupala Day.

Located in Mizhhirya district, Zakarpattia region, near the village of Pylypets.

Yalynsky Waterfall

The waterfall is located at an altitude of about 1050 meters and is most attractive and picturesque in spring. It is filled with meltwater, flowing down from a height of 26-meter cliffs with a deafening roar. In the Carpathians, it is the highest waterfall with one cascade. For tourists traveling along the rocky slopes of the Marmaros (otherwise - the Hutsul Alps), it becomes a pleasant surprise.

The waterfall is located in the Rakhiv district of the Transcarpathian region.

The Carpathian Mountains of our Ukraine hide in their depths many different treasures of nature. Among them are waterfalls, in all their diverse palette. There are both small modest ones and large rapid ones, carrying their transparent waters from the very peaks and pouring the long-awaited summer coolness around. Waterfalls, saturated with water and creating ice sculptures, are attractive to the most demanding tourist.
