TOP 30 crafts, inventions and unusual personalities of Ukraine who are changing the world with their imagination

TOP 30 crafts, inventions and unusual personalities of Ukraine who are changing the world with their imagination

The country of unique crafts that are no longer found in the world is Ukraine. With Ukrainian hard work and talent, real miracles are created in our country that can be repeated, but it is difficult to come up with the first time. Ukrainian ideas are used in Hollywood and in space, immortalized in music, dance, and art. The names of Ukrainian talents are known to world culture and science, their contribution is unique and important. It often happens that we do not even suspect that this or that genius comes from Ukraine. Many of them were forced, unfortunately for the country, to leave their native places in order to improve their knowledge and have the opportunity to apply them. So, let's see in which professions our compatriots discovered their talents and which crafts are traditional for our Ukrainian culture.

Film industry

Titanic and Ukraine

The amazing shots of the world-famous Oscar-winning film "Titanic" were made possible with the help of the know-how of Ukrainian resident Anatoly Kokush. He approached the shooting with new methods that allowed him to obtain shots from different cameras mounted on moving objects. The famous James Cameron appreciated this invention, and later it was used more than once in films that have already become cult classics - "Taxi", "Troy", "Fast and Furious", "Ocean's Twelve", "Harry Potter". For this contribution to the development of the film industry, the Ukrainian received as many as two "technical Oscars". This award is given for achievements and innovations in the film industry in the technical field. In addition to Kokush, there were other Ukrainians who received a similar award, so there are four of them in total. You can learn more about these stories at the Dovzhenko Film Studio, where there is a special museum. Since the excursions are irregular, you must register in advance to participate in them.

Actresses with Ukrainian roots

Everyone knows the blockbuster "The Fifth Element" and remembers the blue-eyed beauty Lila. And she is also our compatriot, because Milla Jovovich, who played the role of the savior of the planet, was born in the capital of Ukraine. And the most beautiful of the "Bond" girls, Olga Kurylenko! A beauty who was born in Berdyansk and became not only a Hollywood actress, but also a French model.

Successful IT projects used by the whole world

Many Ukrainian IT professionals have distinguished themselves with their work in Europe and the United States. Many work with high results on international projects.

And who would have thought that the co-founder of WhatsApp is also a Ukrainian, Jan Koum, and the co-founder of one of the largest payment systems, PayPal, is Max Levchin. Both of these programmers successfully emigrated with their families to the United States at one time, where they built their careers.

Sports achievements: football and boxing

Even if you find yourself in a place where no one has heard of our country, just say the name Klitschko and you will immediately hear the answer that they are boxers. There is no person in the world today who would not know Vitali and Wladimir - world heavyweight boxing champions. The brothers even have a museum in Kyiv, where you can admire the huge number of medals and awards they have won.

And recently, another new star has lit up the ring, also Ukrainian – it’s Oleksandr Usyk. Among the awards he has won is an Olympic gold medal. This boxer himself is unusual, even his appearance catches the eye – he wears a herring, traditional for Cossacks, and once even danced a real hopak in the ring.

And who doesn't know the famous Ukrainian footballer - Sheva, aka Andriy Shevchenko. His name is known to every schoolboy, he is recognized by football fans all over the world. Once FC "Milan" generously spent money to attract the famous Ukrainian scorer to the Italian team. 2004 brought Andriy the title of the third best footballer in the world, according to FIFA, and he also became the owner of the famous "Golden Ball".

Embroidery as a global trend

Ukrainian women have always decorated their shirts and those of their husbands with unique, original embroidery. However, today they have gone beyond the borders of the Ukrainian hut, and beyond the borders of our country - and today they boldly parade on the fashion arena and adorn the pages of the most expensive glossy magazines. These unusual, rich ornaments have entered the hearts of fashion designers, and therefore, admirers of their talent. Ukrainian embroidery is a fashionable, stylish and bright decor, which, in addition to the external, also has a deep internal meaning and significance for its wearer. Of course, if the embroidery is made in the traditions of folk craftsmen.

Petrykivka painting became a UNESCO heritage site

In the Dnipropetrovsk region there is a small but famous village of Petrykivka. Today it is the center of the national decorative painting, which bears the same name - Petrykivsky. These amazing floral ornaments fill the soul with peace, light and warmth. Unique drawings have long served as a decoration of local houses and interior. Today Petrykivsky painting is a UNESCO heritage site, and this art has gained worldwide fame and become a famous brand. Residents of many other countries, outside of Ukraine, strive to master this skill.

Architectural masterpieces of Ukraine

Kievan Rus has always treated churches with reverence and respect, and built them in huge numbers. And the masters, in turn, have always been very careful about the traditions and skills passed down from generation to generation, also related to national architecture. Iconostases of incredibly delicate handwork, carved altars, wood carvings have always been praised and respected by monarchs. Today, more than 8 churches in Ukraine are under the protection of UNESCO. But you can always admire the delicate work of ancient masters by visiting these famous places with wonderfully created churches. One of such masterpieces is the Church of St. George in the city of Drohobych.

Submarines

Ukrainian Cossacks affectionately called their favorite boats "seagulls". The technology of their manufacture is unique: a vessel about eighteen meters in size was hollowed out of a single piece of wood, from one huge log. Such a large boat could accommodate more than 70 people at a time. Its sides were sheathed with pine planks, the sides were decorated with reeds - it increased the buoyancy of the boat. A sail proudly fluttered above all this beauty. Some historians have a version that the progenitor of the submarine, the first in the world, was two such boats joined together.

For some time they could be under water, hiding from the eyes of the enemy. The Chaika Maritime Museum, located on Khortytsia, can tell you much more about the ships and boats of the Cossacks. In addition, recently there was news that the British BBC channel, known to everyone, is planning to shoot a documentary about these places - about the island of Khortytsia. So if you haven't been there yet, it's time to take a look at the local wonders.

Ceramics of Trypillia

This culture is called a world phenomenon. The find that made the country famous is Trypillian ceramics. It is the only one left from the Trypillian culture. In the 4th-3rd millennium BC, Trypillian craftsmen learned to make real masterpieces from clay, and today all the museums of the world are trying to get their hands on this ceramics. In our country, there is the Trypillian Archaeological Museum, which can be visited by anyone who is interested in this period and its achievements.

Ukrainian cuisine

The famous Kiev-style cutlet has become an integral part of the menu of any country's cuisine. If somewhere outside your homeland you are overcome by nostalgia, or simply longing for folk recipes, you can easily immerse yourself in familiar tastes by ordering it in any restaurant in the world. And even in Nepal, you will be understood if you order dumplings or borscht, and you will taste the local interpretation of our famous recipes. And it was our fellow countryman from Odessa, Boris Lisanovych, who helped Nepal become more open to tourists: in distant, almost isolated from the rest of the world, Nepal, he was able to create a separate infrastructure to attract tourists. And he also became a teacher for Nepalese chefs. This is how "momo" appeared - the same as our Ukrainian dumplings, but in the Nepalese style, and they became one of the most popular dishes of Kathmandu.

Technical era

Igor Sikorsky, the world's first aircraft designer who conceived of creating a flying machine, was from Kyiv. His invention is very similar to modern helicopters, but it originated much earlier. More information about his achievements, discoveries, and life path can be found at the State Aviation Museum.

The era of cosmonautics was opened by an unremarkable, seemingly modest designer from Zhytomyr - Sergey Korolev. For the first time, a rocket was created under his leadership, which launched an artificial satellite of the Earth into our orbit. His team, inspired by the ideas and inspiration of a genius, in 1961 launched the first spacecraft, on board of which for the first time there was a person - the same Yuri Gagarin, whose name will remain in history, and not only in cosmonautics, forever. These achievements made possible in our lives such phenomena as satellite television, which has become an integral attribute of our lives today, and navigation, which significantly facilitates the life of ships.

Boris Grabovsky, our Ukrainian scientist, invented an electronic television system in 1928, which he called “Telephoto.” In principle, it was very similar to modern television image transmission schemes.

Nobel Prize laureate – Ukrainian physician

Ilya Mechnikov created the first Russian school of microbiologists, pathologists and immunologists. He was born in a small village near Kharkov. All his life he searched for effective ways to combat various infectious diseases, sought to find a way to destroy typhoid fever, cholera, tuberculosis and many other deadly diseases for human life.

Musical achievements of Ukrainians

A unique Ukrainian musical instrument - the trembita, most vividly demonstrates the color of the nation. The Hutsuls managed to tame it like no other, effectively and fruitfully. Four meters of a wooden pipe is not as simple as it seems. You can hear the loud voice of this unusual instrument rushing over the Carpathian mountains by visiting the festival "They Call Trembitas to Synevyr."

In 2004, for the first time, a Ukrainian singer, Ruslana, became the winner of Eurovision in Europe with her "Wild Dances".

The Ukrainian folk song "Shchedryk" has become so firmly entrenched in the culture of many countries, where it is sung at Christmas, that its roots have been practically forgotten. But here it is - it has its origins in Ukrainian folk culture, and its arrangement by the Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych has traveled the world. In the USA it is known as "Carol of the Bells".

The names of pianists, musicians and composers from Ukraine are known all over the world. However, most often these people were emigrants. For example, composer Dmitry Tyomkin, who wrote music for many Hollywood films, received an Oscar four times in the 50s, and he himself is from our city of Kremenchuk.

The world audience was captivated by the beautiful voice of Solomiya Krushelnytska from Galicia. Even Enrico Caruso and the famous Fyodor Chaliapin paid tribute to her amazing voice.

Famous dancer and gentleman of France

The Ukrainian who sang the dance was Serge Lifar, the ballet master of the Paris Opera, the founder of the University of Choreography. He was awarded the title of Chevalier of France, the Oscar, the Legion of Honor, was awarded the Medal of Paris, and much more. And all this time he remembered his original Ukrainian, Cossack roots. Once Charles de Gaulle suggested that he become a French citizen, to which he replied that he was and always would remain a Ukrainian citizen, and would bear this title with pride.

World-renowned artist

The paintings of the great artist Ilya Repin have always amazed the audience with their artistry and realism. His famous painting "The Cossacks Write a Letter to the Turkish Sultan" is known all over the world, as is the canvas that evokes a burdensome and sad impression "Bargemen on the Volga". A wonderful portraitist, a master of everyday and historical scenes, he was a native of Chuguev, which is located in the Kharkiv region. It was there that he began his studies in painting, where he painted icons placed in local churches.

Psychologists with world-renowned expertise and an unconventional approach

Who would have thought that the founder of psychoanalysis, the famous Sigmund Freud, also has some relation to our country. As it turned out, his family lived on the lands of Ukraine for some time, and for a rather long time. His mother was from Odessa, where she grew up, his father lived in Galicia, and later they moved together to Buchach, located in the Ternopil region. And only from there after some time they went to a town in Germany.

Moreover, everyone knows Leopold Ritter von Sacher-Masoch, and he has Ukrainian roots in his family tree. The now famous "50 Shades of Grey" became possible precisely thanks to his highlighting of the concept of masochism in psychiatry and sexopathology. So, Sacher-Masoch's homeland was Lviv, the most Ukrainian city in the country. At one time, he was so absorbed in the culture, language and traditions of Galicia that he even created and published a separate collection "Galician Stories". It is quite possible that it was in his memory that a thematic Masoch cafe was later opened in Lviv. Anyone who is interested can visit here, but those who adhere to puritanical views and have weak nerves will be uncomfortable here at least.

Rulers with famous names

The famous Ukrainian woman who was able to charm the Turkish Sultan with her charms is Roksolana, known by this name throughout Europe. The inhabitants of the Ottoman Empire called her Hürrem. And to Ukrainians she was known by her real name - Nastya Lisovska. She had an incredibly huge influence on her powerful husband, European ambassadors listened to her and took her opinion into account. Thanks to her, mosques, hospitals, and schools were built.

And the most influential woman in Europe in the 11th century was Queen Anna Yaroslavna of France, daughter of Yaroslav the Wise. She earned the trust and respect of many figures of her time - with her decisions and actions. It was thanks to her that the male name Philip became popular in European countries - that's how she named her firstborn. After him, five French kings and monarchs of some other states were named by this name.

All that we have managed to list is a small part of the contribution of Ukrainians to world culture. Crafts, achievements, inventions, Ukrainians themselves - we can talk about this and talk about it. Ukraine remembers those who are its children, wherever they live, squares and streets are named after them, museums are created in their honor, festivals are organized, they are remembered.
