Today's fashion is about freedom. Women all over the world are finally tired of adhering to frameworks, canons, and rules. Fashion is about self-expression and the right to make mistakes.
The Scandinavian worldview style of hygge has firmly entered life: home comfort and the ability to find happiness in simple things have appealed to many in the conditions of our noisy and hectic time. It is in this fertile soil that oversized clothes have taken root.
The fashion for comfortable, voluminous things hints that what's most important is inside, and clothes cannot be the meaning of life.
Retaining its popularity for several seasons now, oversized is perhaps the brightest trend in modern fashion. This is a whole new culture that forces us to pay attention to our inner world, rethink our understanding of sexuality and, so to speak, legalize the right to experiment, no matter how bold it may be. Women no longer need to pull on a dizzying mini in a tight fit and secure the result with a deep neckline.
A soft and imperceptible revolution took place in minds, and then in wardrobes. Just as corsets and crinolines once faded into oblivion, jeans later appeared, and then it became permissible to replace ballet flats with stilettos, now you can come to work in knitted joggers and wrap yourself in a cardigan that resembles a plaid.
Oversize has also changed the principle of choosing clothes: now there is no need to hide "unsuccessful" parts of the body and emphasize "appetizing" ones, the accents of presenting oneself have changed. The woman seems to say: "I am not interested in my body and this does not make me less attractive. Although, look at what graceful ankles I have."
Even the classic little black dress is making a slight departure from the catwalks. For example, designers Vera Wang and Bottega Venetto have created versions of loose and comfortable “big” cocktail black dresses in their collections.
But how not to overdo it with this new trend? After all, it's one thing to lie down on the sofa with a book in a comfortable sweater. And quite another to create a fashionable look, in which, as they say, you can go to a banquet and to the world. At the same time, it is important not to look like a homeless man from the neighboring yard or a Pannochka from "Viya".
And this is obviously not easy, if even the popular Rihanna does not always stand the line with absurdity. Therefore, you can not do without some rules.
In the photo: Rihanna in an oversized dress. It's better not to repeat.
Rule #1. Only one oversized item.
Make sure that only one thing in your look is intentionally large. Oversized clothing is designed to emphasize elegance and slimness precisely through contrast. Even blanket coats should allow others to guess the silhouette. Tight skinnies, a pencil skirt or a sheath dress are a good company for oversized outerwear.
What else is worth experimenting with in the oversized style?
- Men's shirts. Classic, especially fashionable striped or white.
- Cardigans and sweaters. Fine cashmere drapes incredibly effectively.
- Coat. But be careful with the cut: a cocoon is a definite "yes", but fitted models with broad shoulders can look "alien".
- Denim jackets and bomber jackets. With short minimalist dresses or tight linen sundresses to the floor. But the sleeves should be rolled up.
- Dresses. Cocoons, hoodies, bags and rectangles. Don't be shy. Accessories will set the mood.
Rule number 2. We adhere to proportions
Despite some similarities, this rule does not duplicate the previous one. The point is different: a woman's figure should be recognizable. If you choose a voluminous top, then the bottom should be tight-fitting and vice versa.
When following fashion, remember the features of your body. Oversize can help balance the image and place the right accents.
Owners of a large bust should not choose coarse knit sweaters, collars and large jewelry. A more successful solution would be spacious pants or mom jeans with a calm top.
Short ladies will be successful in emphasizing their waist and adding small jewelry. Otherwise, oversized clothes may seem like clothes for their older sister. After all, it is not necessary to bring your own beauty into a tribute to fashion, even if it is cozy.
To make your figure look spectacular, you should leave your ankles, wrists, and neck bare. That's when the oversized piece will look like a stylish element, not a hoodie.
Remember one more tip: the bottom of the shirt should never coincide with the widest part of the hips. The horizontal line should be above or below this conditional line. If the bottom of the blouse is cut diagonally, then even a huge oversized model will make you slimmer.
Rule #3. Oversize doesn't mean "a couple of sizes bigger"
A man's shirt or coat in size L instead of your S is not always a good option for oversize. 100% hit - specially designed models. Many brands have responded to the fashion trend and have long been creating hypertrophied huge jeans, dresses, shirts, jackets and cardigans taking into account real-size patterns.
Boyfriend jeans are a prime example of this. They look oversized, baggy at the knees, and low at the waist, but they don't fall off or hang down at the bottom.
The same goes for blouses – they are long, loose-fitting, with sleeves that are gathered, but the shoulders are in place, not in the elbow area.
If you still decide to just buy a larger size, then choose obviously huge things, not a 48 instead of a 46. Slightly oversized things look like you lost weight after an illness or were careless in trying on the thing when buying. While significantly larger ones will help create a stylish look.
Rule #4. Oversize for plus size
It is a misconception that this style will make full women look even fuller. But this is not true. Think for yourself: if a sweater hangs on you, it seems that you are so thin that it has nothing to cling to, and there are simply no smaller things)))
True, if combined incorrectly, oversized clothing can add extra pounds. But in the previous rules, we have already taught you how to avoid this.
By the way, oversized is a real godsend for pregnant women. It is both comfortable and hides excessive bulges of the figure if desired.
Rule #5. Don't be afraid to experiment
Do you think a voluminous cardigan is too rough for a combination dress? It's only at first glance. But in fact, deliberate roughness is the basis of such a style. This is especially convenient if the solemn event is only in the evening, and spending the whole day in a thin silk dress is cold and inappropriate.
If you've already embraced the oversized trend, then head to the men's department. You might find your true oversized piece there.
Age is also not an obstacle to stylish and fashionable clothing, even oversized (and maybe even more so). Except that you can choose a more conservative dress length.
Rule #6. Study outfit selections
Looking at celebrity photos or just stylish street style can be a great source of inspiration. You can find fashion bloggers on Instagram and follow their posts. Some of them track fashion trends, while others simply follow their mood, ignoring design patterns.
It is not necessary to copy the found bows, especially since they can have obvious kinks. It is enough to adopt general trends, color schemes or individual elements of the image.
